The Where Did You Go To High School? Exhibit Developed by St. Louis Teens Opens at the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park from March 12 – July 17, 2016
Where Did You Go To High School? considers the all too familiar “St. Louis question” that is the starter to most conversations well into ones adult years. The exhibit takes this popular question head on while seeking to understand if it promotes unity among St. Louisans or if it in fact causes a divide between us. It also zeroes in on the special moments that one experiences during such formative years as a teenager. The exhibit was proposed, curated and installed by area teenagers who participate in the Missouri History Museum’s Teens Make History Program.
Over the course of a year, teens brainstormed the exhibition topic, conducted research, interviews and wrote object labels to coincide with objects featured in the exhibit. To qualify for the Teens Make History Program, which would make you a paid, part-time employee of the Missouri History Museum, students must successfully complete the Teens Make History Academy. The Academy is an eight-week museum studies course that teaches teens the ropes in the museum world. It is open to all high school students in the St. Louis metropolitan area, takes place outside of school hours and is offered annually from January to March.
